Innovation Tri-Valley Leadership Group Announces New Board Chair

PLEASANTON, Calif. — July 21, 2021
As one corporate leader delivers a sweeping blueprint for expanding and accelerating economic growth in the Tri-Valley, another key leader steps up to bring the bold vision to life, ensuring the Tri-Valley continues to be one of Bay Area’s hottest destinations for companies, talent, and investment.

Rick Shumway, CEO of Stanford Health Care-ValleyCare assumes the position of Board Chair at Innovation Tri-Valley Leadership Group (ITV) this month.  Steve Lanza, a recently retired executive from Lam Research led ITV’s cross-sector collaborative for three years, working with a large team to deliver the transformational Innovation Tri-Valley 2040 Vision Plan for the region in June.

“One of the main reasons the Tri-Valley continues to lead the Bay Area is that the leaders here do not wait for the next problem or opportunity to take action,” says Steve Lanza. “Innovation Tri-Valley Leadership Group has brought together the best minds from industry, both city and county government, education, our local national labs and innovation centers, all working together to set the stage for a thriving Tri-Valley for the next 20 years.”

ITV’s work to craft a Tri-Valley 2040 Vision Plan together with more than 1000 regional stakeholders delivers 24 key initiatives that foster growth in a positive and collaborative culture.  For 10 years,  ITV leaders have come together to drive a thriving economy powered by innovation and an unparalleled quality of life.

“The Tri-Valley is an exceptionally innovative and forward-thinking region,” says Shumway, who assumed the board leadership role for ITV July 1st.  “Leaders in every sector here genuinely believe we are stronger together, and that collaborative core value is the region’s secret sauce.  I am completely bullish on what can be accomplished in the Tri-Valley in the next 20 years and the key is getting underway now.  It’s exciting to be part of something that is so impactful, delivering more opportunity for all.”

Shumway and Lanza are aligned in their belief that the recommendations in the Innovation Tri-Valley 2040 Vision will not only strengthen economic growth and improve regional and megaregional transportation connections, but will also expand the social infrastructure to create an upward trajectory for all of the families in the region.

Former ITV Board Chair John Sensiba said of out-going board chair Steve Lanza, “Having an executive of Steve’s caliber at the helm of Innovation Tri-Valley Leadership Group advanced the strength and influence of the organization in the region and beyond.  His leadership and the transformational 2040

Vision Plan he helped to deliver for the region positions ITV as a significant economic force in the Tri-Valley for many years to come.”  John Sensiba is Managing Partner of Sensiba San Filippo, and Founder of the Sensiba Center for Sustainability.

Steve Lanza continues his service to the community as a Board Member for the Las Positas College Foundation and Livermore Shakespeare’s Associates, and Executive Board Member for Innovation Tri-Valley Leadership Group. He is a professor of strategy, finance and management at Las Positas College and Golden Gate University, and Principal of Tri-Valley Advising.
