Green Economy and Climate-Tech Workforce Symposium Set for November 8

Event designed to connect Industry, Government, Technology and Education leaders and position the region as a climate-tech leader in the energy transformation

October 16, 2024 – LIVERMORE, California

Innovation Tri-Valley Leadership Group (ITV), Livermore Lab Foundation (LLF), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Startup Tri-Valley (STV), Chabot Las Positas Community College District (CLPCCD) are partnering to inform, promote, and connect the leaders involved in climate change, carbon dioxide removal (CDR), climate technology, innovation investments and clean-tech workforce development via a special public event,  “Decarbonizing Our Economy: Technology & Workforce Solutions for a Sustainable Future,” on November 8 from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Mertes Theatre at Las Positas College.

The forum will spotlight cutting-edge carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies, regional policies, and workforce and industry strategies to enable the greater Tri-Valley region to meet climate sustainability goals and support a thriving green and carbon neutral economy.

Scientists from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory will highlight the Roads to Removal report, a national analysis as to how the United States can remove carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.  The acceleration of industry startups, technology investment, workforce training and public education is critical to the success of accomplishing this goal and the overall energy evolution.

“Decarbonization isn’t just an environmental necessity; it’s an economic opportunity. Rushnu is among many local companies leading this transformative movement. If we are to succeed, working together, in sustainable partnerships, is critical,” said Matin Hanifzadeh, PhD, CEO and Founder of Rushnu, a carbon transformation company incubating in Daybreak Labs in Livermore.

This summit will also provide a space for emerging entrepreneurs to share solutions and make impactful connections with investors, scientists and industry leaders,” said Yolanda Fintschenko, Executive Director of i-GATE, Startup Tri-Valley, and Daybreak Labs. ”Startups are uniquely positioned to drive decarbonization through bold innovation.” Fintschenko will moderate an industry panel at the event featuring Rushnu’s Hanifzadeh.

Thanks to a grant from the University of California, the symposium is free and open to the general public. Registration is now underway but seating is limited.
