PLEASANTON, Calif. December 16, 2021 The Innovation Tri-Valley 2040 Vision Plan represents research and input from more than 1,000 stakeholders and is a foundational document for the Tri-Valley today and for its next generation of leaders. This powerful economic development tool contains a list of 24 priorities to sustain and support the fastest growing region in the Bay Area. Innovation Tri-Valley Leadership Group (ITV) is a collective of regional leaders driving the innovation economy by connecting the businesses, research labs, educational institutions, and civic leaders in the Tri-Valley.

Because ITV’s core values include empathy, inclusion, and equitable access for all, the goal of establishing a geographically focused community fund became fundamental to creating a more equitable ecosystem. Through the hard work and dedication of several volunteer community leaders, the Three Valleys Community Foundation (3VCF) was launched in October of 2021, making the first completed project of the 2040 Vision Plan a solid reality.

A community fund is a (501)(c)(3) charitable organization that exists to support the needs of a specific geographic area through the management and administration of a network of donations. The Tri-Valley has over 350 registered non-profits providing services from basic human needs to mental health, healthcare, the arts, youth services, education, and organizations working to eradicate poverty and homelessness.

ITV’s extensive research, development and strategic planning phase of the 2040 Vision plan reports the Tri-Valley GDP as $42 billion. Yet 3VCF founding data reports that less than half a percent of that number comes back into the regional non-profit sector.

“The establishment of Three Valleys Community Foundation will have a tremendous impact on our community’s nonprofit sector which supports our region’s quality of life and ultimately strengthens the entire Tri-Valley ecosystem,” said ITV Board Chair Rick Shumway.

3VCF offers complete grantmaking assistance and the ability to process complex donations including non-cash gifts, streamlining what can be an arduous process for traditionally understaffed non-profit organizations. Benefits to the non-profit include increased access to funding and administrative support in fundraising. The donor benefits from engaging with a non-profit in a trustworthy, meaningful and impactful way.

“Our goal is to broaden local philanthropic support, benefitting not only our local nonprofits as they build capacity and serve with strength, but also local donors by connecting them with the most immediate and pressing community needs,” said John Sensiba, chair of the 3VCF board of directors. “Three Valleys Community Foundation desires to increase the proportion of local giving to create a region where every single person has the opportunity to live a full and rewarding life.”
